With well-balanced affection and blame, it presents a portrait of the prize-winning author of the House on the Hill, Work Wearies and other books of fiction and poetry, dedicated editor at the Einaudi Publishing House, and renowned translator of such classics as David Copperfield and Moby-Dick, who was yet unable to shake what he ruefully called his "absurd vice"- a lifelong obsession with suicide. "Mine would be a biography to be written with a scalpel," Pavese once told Lajolo, "I am made up of too many parts that do not blend." Born in rural Piedmont in 1908, Pavese returned, throughout his working life in the city of Turin, to his native hills for solace and inspiration. His friends and admirers included the great Italian literati of the day, yet he remained a lonely man who, after losing his first love, never made his peace with womankind. Several of his friends lost their lives in World War II and the Italian civil war of resistance, and Pavese himself spent a year in exile. But in 1950, having survived the Fascist era, believing Communism to offer hope for his country's future, and at the height of his fame, he nevertheless took his own life. Quit working after 30 days

This can opener worked fine for the first couple of weeks. It stopped working several days ago and even though I had recharged it, it would not turn on. I thought I would give it another try before I threw it away since I was past the refund period so I could not return it. I made 100% sure that it was plugged in securely and it did charge and worked today. Make sure that it is plugged in securely when charging. Hopefully it will continue to work and if not I will update my review.

Item review update! Disregard my first review since then I realized that I didn't have the usb cable pushed in far enough for a connection which stopped the item from charging and that's why it stopped working. Item works as described, clean cut, easy to use and really worth the cost. I definitely recommend.

The most worthless item I've purchased

I bought this can opener February 13th I think and I used it 2 weeks ago and is now broken won't open up anything so my review for this is the worst piece of crap can opener I've ever purchased so now I guess I got to go back to the manual hand one the Old faithful!!!!
